Saturday Spin and Coffee
We had a great spin today at the shop. We had around 11 people there. It was a good 2 HR ride. Amber also made it.
I've been feeling strong. I just recently got this cold, but its not to bad. So far. Actually, the whole family has it.

X- Mas Day
The picture on the top is the girls in Hawaii. Thy're so Cute and Happy. We went to Maui for alost 2 weeks in November. We road our bikes and layed on the beach. It was tons of fun.
Today was x-mas and it was a good day. We stayed at our home and a good breakfast and opened presents. Cada was so happy. I love to watch her open her gifts. Her eyes just light up when she see's what it is. She really wanted this Mermaid Barbie doll. Santa found it, and delivered it Christmas Eve.
Also C.R.C new Ti-Snowbike will be arriving really soon and were super excited. People are getting it to the details of the new Rig. The snowbike project this winter has been pretty fun. New Rims (80's and 100's), Forks, and there will be a aluimium bike version soon.
The next big bike race will be the Frosty Bottom, and maybe the Susitnia 100. Not sure yet. We'll see what happens.

The kids our doing great. Dara is getting really big. Shes such a happy baby. Cada is just a high energy 4 year old.

TOA Done!

Well after a long weekend we just finished up the Tour. It was a good race besides the Crit was a bummer. It started to rain super hard and it got super slick. Everyone go lapped by 8 guys. So we all got a time penalty around 2mins. So that hurt. The Hill climb was slow. Not what I wanted. I felt really good at the TT and RR. There's 3 races left and then its Cross season.
The new baby is getting big fast. She put on 12 ounces, a grew a 1 inch in alittle over a week.

Just Waiting Around.
Well, Ambers due in 2 weeks and she ready. August 9th is the date that the little one is supposed to show her face. Amber hopes its sooner. She would be happy with tonight.
Racing is going OK . The weather has been wet and cold. No fun at all. Tommorrow we have our Knik 35k (State Championship). It looks like lots of rain. Bring on Cross season.
Speaking of cross season. I just ordered Amber and myself new Ridley X-Fire. I'm going to build them up with some new Sram Force. Should be pretty nice. Hopefully I can get in this cross race there having in Las Vegas at Interbike. It opens up August 1st. I'll be up late or early to Register.

Potter Valley Win
Under a sunny 75 degree evening I won Potter Valley HC. The best part I dropped 18 seconds off my PR. So that means a new PR of 7:58. Theres only been a few people under 8:00 mins and I'm in that group now. Good feeling and a week of racing. Fireweed 100 is the next big race. Should be nice and hard.

Hatcher Pass HC and 24 HR Tragedy
So, I'll start with Hatchers Pass on Saturday morning. It was a good race for me . I ve never done well at that race before. The pass was really fast from the begining. We actualy drop a few people off the back quickly. When we hit the corner by the lodge, it was on. There was 4 of us in the group. Matt J, Matt N, Seth, and myself. I attacked at the bottom and Matt N. covered. Then Jordan attacked after that twice. The second time it all broke up. It was jordan up the and me behind Matt N. Seth and I caught Matt N. and then Seth chased after Jordan and I seat on Seth wheel. When we got to the gate I went after Jordan. I got 20 sec to him and then the rode ran out. It finished Matt J, myself, Seth, and Matt N. I was pleased with the race and how I felt afterwards.
Petra Davis was attacked by a Brown Bear on Rovers Run at 1:30am Sunday morning. Peter Basinger was the first on scene and Will Ross was second. I not writing any thing else about this because ADN has enough info on there page. She is doing Well and boy is she a tough girl. Healing up Petra.

Last Hope Road Race.
After a week of recovery after Tour of Fairbanks, I felt pretty good about the 75 mile RR. Ifelt pretty good after the race. I didnt finish as well as I would have hoped. But it turned out to be pretty sweet for the Kaladi crew. Bill won, Jordan third and myself 4th. Yep Bill won. It was really cool that Bill won. They wouldn't let Jordan and myself go out of the pack. But they were letting Bill go out front by himself. So, Bill rode away. Jordan attacked at the turn around and broke up the group. Jordan told Bill the race was his to win at the line. Bill was super happy. So I have a really busy week. I have 3 races this week, that I really want to do. Stewarts Road (TT-HC) on Tuesday, Arctic Valley (HC) on Thursday, and Hathers Pass (HC) on Saturday. Should be nice and tired by the weekend.

Tour of Fairbanks
Will, that was a good weekend of racing. I finished up in 2nd overall and 3rd in points. Tom was 3rd overall and Matt N. was first by 3 seconds. Great job guys. I'll write a full race report tommorrow. Those young guys up there in Fairbanks are getting strong.

Memorial weekend
This was Memorial Weekend. It was fun and very productive. We had a epic Road Race on Saturday. It was 44 degrees and raining hard. We did 12 laps. On lap 3 it broke down to 7 and then on lap 4 it was down to 4. That was it. Almost everyone quit because of the cold. I think us4 and 3 people on there own was the only ones that finished. I finished 4th. I was so cold after that race.
Sunday, Jordan and I went for a 2 hour ride. Then Amber and I picked up a new Dryer for the house. Then we went down to the park and flew Cadas new kite. It was really fun. Its been a long time since I've flown a kite.
Monday, Adam and I went on a 2:30 mtn bike ride. That was really fun. Its been along time since hitting offroad trails. My new 29er Orbea Alma is super sweet (22.6lb) What a sweet ride.
Trails are in pretty good shape overall. Little muddy in spots. They were better than what I was expecting. I finally started weather proofing my decks. Front on done and half of the back deck. Looks so much nicer. It matches our hottub perfectly. also me and Cada cleaned our bikes in the front yard.

Spring Stage Race, Done!

We had great weather this weekend. The first event was Friday night at Hiland Road Hillclimb. That went pretty good . I finished 3rd behind Yeaton and Jordan. I held a good pace and no one could bridge the gap. It was a solid effort. Saturday morning we had a Crit. That was more like a short road race course. We finished in a group. Jordan, Peichel, and Madson took the overall top three. It was 50 mins plus 2 laps. It was also a good effort. A few hours later we had a 15 mile TT. That was a tough race. I felt Ok before the race, but couldn't get my heart rate up. So, I started down the road and sure enough thats all I had. I couldn't get my heart rate above 172. Thats about 10 beats lower than my normal TT effort. I was beat down. I think I finished 8th. Madson, Jordan, and Peichel finished in the top 3. I ended up finishing 5 overall in the GC. Not to bad, since I blow up in the TT. I feel like I'm still off since my crash 5 weeks ago. Hopefully, I can get a few good races together in the next few weeks.
The one cool thing is that Kaladi riders took 1,2,3 places on every stage and on GC also. Good results for the team. Let you know how Moose Run goes.

Back from the Sun
Just got back from Tucson. It was 90 and sunny. While I was gone it snowed almost 2 foot. The race went pretty good. I had a2 good race and 2 bad races. In the Hill climb prologue I got 14th and my time trial I was 24th out of 90 racers. My 2 road races wasn't so good. I crashed and went the ditch on the first one and the second one I ran out of gears on this super long decent.
My body feels so much better now than it did a few weeks ago. This weekend I will do the Kincaid Loop Road Race. That should be lots of fun. Lots of people usually attend that one since its one of the first road races of the season.

Day 6 (Recovery)
I got a good 1:30 in on the trainer today. I got in the hot tub afterwards and stretched out. Felt pretty good. Trying to get health fast and get back to normal.
Got my tattoo finished up today. Took about a 1:30 to finish it up. So now my arm hurts more than the rest of my body. Weird how that works.
So, funny story. After I crashed, there was a guy that gave me a ride back to the shop. It was really nice of him. But when he dropped me off he didn't get all my stuff out of his car. My gloves, hat, and my camera. I was hoping he would mail it to me, since he knew the name of the shop. But no luck there. I went and got a new camera day. Nikon 210. It takes nice pictures and its super small.

Recovery (Day 5)
I got back on the bike today for an hour. It felt pretty good my hip flexor is really sore still. The ribs are feeling better day by day. They really don't hurt on the bike. Each day I get alittle more motion back. Still little pains off and on. But feeling alittle better each day. I've been hot tubing it and iceing alot. I going to try to ride the trainer again tommorow. So, I have 3 weeks before my race in Bisbee, Arizona. Hopefully, I will back to form by then.
It just snowed about a foot in the last couple of days. So I can't ride outside. That makes feel alittle better about being injuryed. I'll give a update in acouple of days.

Falling Rocks !!!
That's right. Well, here's a good story. So Bill, Adam ,and I rode out the Arm for a recovery ride. We had a nice tale wind heading back in town. We were riding in a pace line; Adam, myself, then Bill. I heard Adam yell and then all of a sudden I got smacked by a dozen rocks to the right side of me. Bill rode out of it, but I got the worse of it. So this big ass rock slid down from above, hit the road and exploded. When the rocks hit my front wheel, I went flying over my handlebars. I hit my head twice and landed on my hip and my upper rib cage. We were going about 30mph when I hit the pavement. I remember laying on the ground and seeing rocks all over the place in the road. I was hurt pretty bad. I finally got up and headed to the other side of the road and the fell down again because my hip was killing me. A guy sitting in his car gave me a ride back to the shop. Adam and I headed to the ER expecting the worse. Adam got a x-ray on his arm. No break, and he's still growing (birth plates). I went in for x-rays on pelvis and ribs. No breaks. They said I would be really sore for the next couple of days. I'm really sore today all over. You name it, it hurts. I think I'll try to ride a little at the end of week. So, what a freak accident. But it could have been worse. Alot worse.

Riding Outside
Been riding outside a ton. Today Bill, Fred and myself went out for 2:30 ride in the wind and snow. Today we went up Clarks Road and it was snowing and blowing so hard. It was a amazing to be riding a road bike in that weather.
Training is going good. Almost 3 weeks before first race and then out of state for Bisbee. Should be good. That will be the true test.
We just found out that we will have a house full of girls. We our having a baby girl. Cadence is excited to be a big sister. Amber is do well, she is half way their.

First Road Ride of 2008!
So, March 17 (St.Patricks Day) Tom and I got in almost 3HRs outside today. In the sun in was around 42. Feet and hands got alittle cold after 2.5HRs. We rode out the arm with a nice tail wind out to Indian. Rode back with of course a head wind. Then went up Dearmoun Road and back down the hill. Thats when it got really cold. Came home and Cada and I got in the hot tub.
Tommorrow, I'm getting some more tattoo work done.I will also get my new wheels in tommorrow. New Zipp Sub 9 and Front 1080. I'll post pictures when there ready to roll. Next are a new set of Reynolds King of Mountains. Better save some pennys or sell some bike parts. Also some new tires. Michelin Pro Race 3 (Clinchers) and Victoria tire (Tubulars). Alot of cool new stuff.

Back Home
We got back from a great vacation to a cold and wet Anchorage. Monday I went for a Recovery Ride on my cross bike on the roads and it was a big change from riding in the 80's with shorts. Riding in the cold with windfront tights just fells heavy. Then on the way home I crash on the sidewalk about a mile from my house. The most imporant thing is that no one saw me.
So, I'm feeling better now. I was really tired last week after riding so much in Kona. So 6 weeks till our season kicks off. Moose Run will be the first test of the season. Then theres a Potter Valley HC. Then we leave to go to the Veulta de Bissbee. The trick will be to stay motivated and maintain for 6 weeks. I think Matt Jordan and I will start to train in a few weeks together.

Testing in Kona.
Well, I've been riding the Sram Rival on my training bike this week and its bad ass. I've put in around 300 miles and over 20,000ft of climbing on the groupo and I really like everything about it. The one thing that is hard to get used to is the smaller hood on the shifters. I've been riding Dura-ace for years. I was just really used to those huge hoods on the Shimano stuff. But now I'm used to those smaller hoods now. So, I'm pretty sure that all my bikes will be sporting Sram. They did there homework.
I did a local shop ride on Saturday. It was a hammer fest as usual. But fun. Shonny Vanlandingham is here for the winter training she rode with us. There was around 30 people that showed up. Lot of Triathletes and few roadies. On the way home I rode by Ryan Trebon riding the other way. That would be cool if I can do a ride with him. He's a funny guy.
We've had a great time relaxing and swimming in the pool and ocean. Cada's having a great time building sand castle and playing in the ocean. She has some really cute tan lines.
I've been riding alot (in the Hills). I've been feeling pretty strong lately. Lets get this season started and see who did there homework this winter.

Arrived in Kona !
So we made on the Island last night around midnight. It was a long flight here. Just about 6 Hours. It was a rough flight but it worth it now. Went for a good ride today to spin out my legs. 4 hours , 40 miles , and 4000ft of climbing got the legs pumpin again. I felt a little flat but its normal after a day like yesterday. I'm planing a ride with some locals on Saturday morning and there's a TT race on Monday morning and then a big ride with Todd Monday afternoon. Should be interesting to do a race without a TT bike. Its been along time doing a TT race with a fancy TT bike. Should be a good test. I'll try to get some pictures tommorrow.

Were Back.
Just got back from San Diego. What a great trip. We had a good time and we learned a ton about how Cervelo builds there bikes. The wind tunnel was the coolest experience I think I have ever seen in the bike world. The guys at Cervelo gave us alot of info on free speed. Whats faster, slower, or if just looks cool. Will see if it makes a difference. So here's a Pic of my new bike with Sram Red. Its 13.4lbs. I think it will be down to 12.8 when done. I hope.

Cervelo's the BEST !
Bill and myself are here in San Diego for Brain Bike 2008. Cervelo flew us down here and put us in a sweet hotel for this event. All paid for by Cervelo. Its been a really cool trip. Fun people and lots of sun shine. Bill destroyed a R3 SL today. When I say destroyed, he did. Then chain was falling off the front chain while on the ride. Well, he was going up a hill when he stood up and it ripped the Front and the Rear Der off and broke the seat stay. It was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. That was about a $4000.00 mechincal. It was a good group ride.
I can't wait to see whats happen in the Susitnia 100. Happy pushing boys and girls.
More cool stuff tommorrow. The at the bottom is a logo boy at the Logo Land Park. Pretty funny stuff.

Can you say Wind Tunnel Testing!
Thats right. We got a call today from Cervelo inviting us to a 3 day camp in San Diego. We will be riding all Saturday. Sunday we will be riding in the morning and heading to the wind tunnel to do testing on there bike line in the afternoon. Monday more riding. The best part its all paid for by Cervelo. Everything, food, hotel, airfair. I'm super excited about the wind tunnel. The only thing is that its over the Susitnia 100. So that means no Race for me. I've done that race for 6 years in a row. This trip will be well worth it. I'm ready for road season to kick off.
We all signed up for the La Veulta De Bisbee. Bill, Matt, and myself are a go. It will be a great trip also. Everything is booked and ready to go.
Cada's swimming a like a fish now. 6 swim lessons and she going under the water and holding her breath with goggles. Its amazing. Ambers doing great when she gets good sleep at night. 13 weeks into the baby race.

Sweet Shot!!
Snow + Warm Temps = Pushing
So its warmed up a and things are melting. It sucks for biking right now. Tonight the winds are supposed to be blowing up to 85mph. Its rippin outside right know. Well the ride today was a slow pushing until a snow machine finally came through and packed down the snow. So we rode back to the turn around and rode out the finishing inbound trail. I sure hope the trail sets up. It will be hard as a rock. Maybe got 4 hrs of riding/pushing.
Just got Matt Jordan and Bill to go to the Tour de Bisbee for a stage race. Just have to get Tom in place to go and it will be on. It will be a good time.

Lots going on.
Well, got a good trainer ride into today with Matt Jordan. I think Matt and I are going to go to La Vuelta De Bisbee. That will be a blast if it works out and it sounds like it will. Its a 3 day road race with 4 races. (2 Road Races and 2 Time Trials) Its really cool we have wives that allow us to go out and play. Heading out to the Susitna course on Monday with Bill and a few others to check out the new start to the course. Should be a good long ride.
Ambers doing a little better. She's now about 12 weeks pregnant. She's still getting a little sick but not as bad as a few weeks ago. She thinks were going to have a boy because this one is so different than Cada. She loves to eat and sleep. Cada is super excited about the new baby. She really wants a baby brother. Were all excited about the Hawaii trip. It will be so nice to get away in the sun and ride. Cada keeps saying she wants to go to the beach. Its really cute.
I'll get some good photos of the course on Monday and give a trail report.

Cold and Slow!
Went out to Hillside today for a few hours of pedaling around in the cold temps. It was cold and slow. I learned at -15 my camera, phone and computer all died in about a 1Hr into the ride. I stayed pretty comfortable with what I had on. I just got a new Arc'Teryx jacket with pit zips and it worked like a charm. Goggles make a huge difference in cold weather. I've had some eye issues in the past with cold weather. Its pretty painful. The trails are in good shape. Beside the trails that the horses have been running on. I'm not even going to start on this topic. Anyways, the trails are really slow. Its like riding on velco. Trying to figure out why that is. Rubber, Cold Tempature, Extra Clothes, Snow, all the above. Tommorrows Ambers Birthday. (Big 30) I'm not sure when we will celebrate it. Maybe this weekend. Tomorrow will be a trainer day at the shop.

Trainer and cold
So, got to the shop today around 7:30. Got about 2Hrs in on the trainer. It was a busy day at the shop. People are buying trainers and bikes. Thats a good thing. Legs were alittle tired from yesterday. I'm not sure about Sunday and Monday. But, I will probably put in a big day in on Monday. Its going to be cold the next couple of days. Mid week it will be up in the 20's again. Going to try to finish up the garage tommorrow. Trying to organize tools and trainer setup. Cada loves to go in the garage and ride her new bicycle around. Thats what the plan will be in the afternoon. Till next time. I'm out.

Lots of Soft Snow!
Went out today for 2:30Hrs of pedaling around in lots of fresh snow. The Hillside is pretty good riding if you want to know what the Susitnia 100 could be like. This is the first real snow fall we have had this year. Its a big change from what we had last weekend. So, I got the bike loaded with gear and some fatty wheels on it. Its good to pedal it around for a month or so loaded down (Heavy). I'm try out some 84mm rims out on my bike. There pretty sweet. They fell really stable in soft punchy snow. But they are heavy to roll over. Train heavy, race light. I hope I won't need them. It could be a long race if the conditions are like they are right now. Riding the trainer in the morning at CRC.

Frosty Bottom Was Frosty!!!!!!
So, the 2nd annual Frosty Bottom Race was Saturday Jan. 5th. It was cold and the trail was rock solid. So, it was a good learning experience. Pace was fast and really cold at first. The temperature was around -0 to 5 degrees at start. We were averaging 15 MPH, so -0 degrees at 15 MPH that makes it really freaking cold. Greg, Tom, Joe, and myself hit the turn around in at about 1:30. That's 1 hour off of last years pace. That's when Tom and I found out that both of our Camelbak blatter hoses were frozen. Well, I got back to Goose Lake and Joe tried to hand me a bottle, but the water was also frozen. Tom made a good push with no water. But was about 3mins to short. Greg made a good attack and held Tom off at the end. Tom and I felt just about the same at the end. We both rode more than half the race with no water. It really put the hurt on both of us. It really messes with your mind when you can hear your water moving around on your back, but you can't get to it. So, at the end of this thing, I bonked and froze my eyes. But, like I said before, it was a good learning experience.

Good 2 Days!!!
So Bill, Tom, Sheryl, and myself went out and got a good 4+ hour ride in. Hillside to Earthquake Park and back. It was almost the Frosty Bottom course. The trail is cherry right now. But a lot could change. Later that evening my family and the Peichel family hooked up for dinner and Fireworks Downtown. The kids had a great time watching the Fireworks and playing in the snow together. Happy New Year!!!!!
Today (Sunday), got a good a 2+ hour ride in with Todd. It was supposed to be recovery ride. Just a few more days till the Frosty Bottom. Amber went for a Hike up the backside of Flattop with the girls this morning. So that means Cada and I had the morning together to play. It was a good day.
